Historic Dodson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Oxford was the setting for a recent planning session of the Major General Patrick R. Cleburne Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy. Built in 1857, the Church’s history includes connections to the Confederate period in Alabama, and the beautiful stained glass windows are original from that time.

Carrie Rich, a high school senior, was welcomed in July as the Chapter’s newest member. During 2011-2012, this Chapter added 18 members to its roster. With normal attrition, membership remains at approximately 160 as the largest Chapter in this Division and one of the largest in UDC. In July, another donation was made to the Division Flag Fund which brought to $1,785.00 the amount donated by this Chapter toward conservation of the 20th Alabama Flag. During the previous year, Chapter members donated $2,660.00 to the Division’s project to conserve the 30th Alabama Flag.

Chapter plans for 2012-2013 include establishing another Alabama Division Scholarship, bestowing UDC Military Service Awards upon living World War II veterans, scheduling interesting speakers and programs for Chapter meetings, and conducting benevolent outreach projects involving the several communities from which the Chapter’s members are drawn.
