My husband and I had the pleasure Sept. 13 to attend Oxford Elementary School’s grandparent lunch with our granddaughter, Kinley Sparks, who’s in third grade. We have been to OES on many occasions throughout the years when our grandson Cayden was there, as well.

I wanted to let the school staff and the Oxford Board of Education know how pleased we are as grandparents to know that our grandchildren have the opportunity to attend such a wonderful school. Debora Nelson, the principal, does an excellent job making sure the students are safe and have all the tools necessary for their education. Nelson, the teachers and the staff have always been incredibly nice and professional. I feel like sometimes we focus on what’s wrong with our schools and overlook the things that are right.

We were impressed with everything happening at OES. From the moment we walked in, we saw security measures in place to protect the students. The students have the use of computers, iPads and numerous other resources that enhance their education experience. Kinley’s classroom was bright and vibrant with tools to make learning fun. Her teacher, Dana Bearden, did an excellent job with her room. It looked like a fun, inviting place to learn. We were also able to take Kinley to the scholastic book fair that was taking place at the school. This was a lot of fun for Kinley.

Thank you, OES staff and Mrs. Nelson, for allowing grandparents to visit. I know it takes a lot of advance preparation to host such an event throughout the week. We truly appreciate that opportunity and look forward to seeing and hearing more exciting things about Oxford Elementary School.
