AAU team competes in district track meet

The city of Anniston’s AAU track team (“A”-Town Runners) competed in the District Qualifier Meet held in June in Montgomery. The team received seven gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals. The team had 19 runners with 18 qualified to compete in the Area National Meet.

The Area National Meet was held in June in Knoxville, Tenn., at the University of Tennessee. The “A” Town Runners received four gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal.

The Junior Olympics was held in July in Houston, Texas at Humble High School.

Results from the Junior Olympics were as follows:

In the 100 meter dash:

Sub-midgets, girls, Shania Vincent placed number 45 overall of 89 runners.

Midgets, girls, Mashaela Hall placed number 80 overall of 91 runners.

Midget, boys, Antony Kirksey placed number 84 overall of 101 runners and TyShawn Long placed number 46 overall of 101 runners.

In the 200 meter Dash:

Sub-midget, girls, Shania Vincent placed number 19 in the quarterfinals which qualified her to compete in the semi-finals. She placed number 21 in the semi-finals.

Midget, boys, TyShawn Long placed number 32 overall of 98 runners.

In the 400 meter dash:

Midget, boys, Antony Kirksey placed number 78 overall of 104 runners.

Sub-youth, boys, Alquinon Martin placed number 76 overall of 94 runners.
