When a retired State Trooper questions such a proposal, does this not tell you that maybe it’s not such a good idea? Have you never had a back or leg spasm while driving? Have you never reached for any item (CD, cell phone, cigarettes, etc.)? Have you never reached to change the radio station or looked down to lower/raise the windows in your car?
I think it is part grandstanding and part a way to raise revenue while giving the impression that the incoming City Council wants to “… protect its citizens …” If the council member had thought to ask a lawyer (I’m sure he knows one or two), he would have been told that aside from the current texting ban there are already statutes that cover anything else he might think of.
Anniston is already losing consumers to Oxford; does Jenkins want more people to drive around Anniston to get to Oxford? Mr. Jenkins, you don’t have any interest in more people driving through McClellan, do you? I never thought I would agree with Councilman Ben Little on anything, but you have got me to that point.
