Officer Nicholas Maguire responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. about a possible theft at a gas station at 13th Street and Wilmer Avenue, said Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell. Upon arrival, Maguire noticed all the gas pumps had been taken off their levers and left on the ground, according to the police report. A resident who called about the theft told the officer he saw the man leave the scene on a skateboard.
Maguire spotted Bryan Matthew Wilson later at the Waffle House on Quintard Avenue, arguing with employees, Doggrell said. When Maguire ordered Wilson to come see him, Wilson took off down the sidewalk on his skateboard. Maguire gave chase on foot and was able to tackle the man, who then fought back. Employees from the Waffle House assisted Maguire, Doggrell said.
Wilson, 26, was charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer. He was being held at the Anniston City Jail this morning.
