Today’s vote is on a constitutional amendment that would allow the state Legislature to take $437 million over three years from the Alabama Trust Fund to balance the state’s General Fund, which pays for critical services and departments such as Medicaid and prisons.
The Star’s editorial board is no fan of this amendment or the decisions made by the Legislature that brought us to this point. But given the options — particularly the pain inflicted on Medicaid recipients should this amendment fail — The Star favors passage of Amendment 1.
Polling places are open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
