In 1961, when I was born, my Poppa had a store on 10th Street in West Anniston. The houses around it were neat and well kept, the community was thriving, and the neighbors were happy and filled with a good sense of pride. The streets were clean, and kids rode bikes, skated and played throughout the neighborhood.
Today, the same area is run down, tired-looking and unkept. There is a sadness or cloud of depression. It is sad and brings tears to my heart when I ride down Ferron, Bancroft or Clydesdale avenues. What happened to the Model City?
