Oxford police charged Nishika Lashae Williams, 20, with third-degree robbery at the Target store in the Oxford Exchange after she allegedly resisted arrest and started a physical altercation with a loss-prevention worker, according to a police report.
Oxford police Lt. L.G. Owens said the loss-prevention employee at the store saw Williams stash clothing items into her purse from a surveillance camera. When the man tried to stop Williams as she was leaving the store, she pushed him away and started a struggle in the entryway of the store, Owens said. Once outside, Williams bit the man on his right forearm.
Owens said under state law a theft becomes a robbery — a felony charge — if the suspect resists arrest or threatens physical harm.
Williams bonded out of Calhoun County jail Wednesday on a $15,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on October 11.
