Anniston police are investigating a shooting from Saturday night which left an Anniston man with a gunshot wound to his back.

Police responded to a call about gunshots heard on McDaniel Avenue Saturday around 10 p.m., according to Lt. Fred Forsythe. The victim, an 18-year-old man, was lying on the ground when police arrived. The man appeared to have been shot in the lower back, Forsythe said. He told police he didn’t see who shot him.

The victim was treated at Regional Medical Center with injuries from which he was expected to recover, Forsythe said. He said he did not know Monday whether the man had been released from the hospital.

Police said a crowd of 30 people were at the scene along the 1100 block of McDaniel Avenue when officers arrived.

None of the witnesses at the scene said they saw the shooting, Forsythe said.
