A Jacksonville State University football player was taken by ambulance to the hospital this afternoon after emergency personnel responded to a call to the JSU field house, city fire Chief Wade Buckner said.

Buckner did not release the player’s name or identity but said he was in stable condition at Jacksonville Medical Center just after 5 p.m.

The fire chief said crews responded to the field house around 4:45 p.m. after they were alerted the player was having some problems with his airway. Buckner declined to go into further detail.
