Firefighters responded to a call near the 4100 block of Ronnaki Road after 9 p.m., putting out a fire at a home on the road by 9:30 p.m., according to a police report.
Anniston police Lt. Fred Forsythe said after investigating the origin of the flames, firefighters became suspicious of the cause of the fire, and called the Anniston Police Department for further investigation.
Because the incident is being treated as an open arson investigation, Forsythe said he could not elaborate on what might have started the fire.
Forsythe said no one was home at the time of the fire. A neighbor noticed the flames and after trying to extinguish them himself, he reported the fire, according to a police report.
Forsythe said the next step for both departments is to determine if the fire was caused by arson, how it started, and who might have been responsible.
