Badminton hasn’t received this much attention since it was the brief preoccupation of thousands of Fourth of July backyard barbecues. (And we aren’t referring to the scandal involving Olympic badminton competitors conspiring to lose into order to get more favorable seeding.)

No, we mean the sheer thrill and novelty of watching familiar games played at an incredibly high level. Table tennis and badminton are a few of the contests most of us tried at family reunions, church fellowship halls and friends’ basements. However, we’d venture to guess, rarely are they played with the sort of skill and intensity we’re watching from London.
