The Alabama Department of Industrial Relations released Friday preliminary unemployment rates that show the state has seen a 0.4 percent increase in unemployment statewide—a bump that represents an additional 9,583 people on the unemployment rolls.
In Calhoun County, the rate jumped from 7.9 percent to 9.2 percent from May to June, preliminary numbers indicate.
Calhoun County’s unemployment fell in the middle range of area counties, with Cleburne showing 8.1 percent unemployment, Cherokee at 8.4 percent, Talladega at 9.7 percent, Clay at 10.6 percent and Randolph at 11.1 percent.
