A suspect in multiple burglaries in Anniston Sunday night and Monday morning is in critical condition at Regional Medical Center, while one or two other suspects are believed to still be on the loose, according to Anniston police.

Police on Monday spotted and gave chase to what they believed was a Dodge truck stolen from Aamco service station on South Quintard Avenue on Sunday night and used in burglaries of Express Pawn on U.S. 431 and the Mapco convenience store on Lenlock Lane early Monday morning, according to Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell.

After a brief pursuit, the truck went off the road near Buckner Circle at McClellan, causing serious injury to one suspect inside, while at least one other suspect fled, Doggrell said.

Around $21,000 in jewelry and guns were stolen from the pawn shop, according to the police report. Doggrell said the stolen vehicle was used to break into the shop by smashing through the glass door in the front of the building.

None of the stolen items were recovered in the vehicle, Doggrell said.

Police are working to examine the truck for evidence it was used in the break in at Express Pawn and Mapco, Doggrell said. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.
