Craft-beer geeks are rejoicing this week. One of America’s best beers has finally come home to Alabama.

Oskar Blues beers began in a bathtub in Auburn. The New York Times later named it the country’s best pale ale.

A rep for distributor AlaBev of Birmingham said Oskar Blues should be on shelves in the Anniston/Gadsden area by Friday. Yesterday, Dale’s Pale Ale was already on tap at Mellow Mushroom in Oxford.

Besides the great taste, Oskar Blues beers stand out because they’re sold in cans, not bottles.

The brewery, run by Dale and Chris Katechis, was named after the two hunting dogs the brothers had growing up in Alabama.

So why did it take so long? At first, craft beer wasn’t popular enough in Alabama; laws finally passed making the state more craft-beer friendly, but by then, the brewery was operating at full capacity. Only now have they worked out a way to supply Alabama.
