Police responded to a call about a possible gunshot victim on Woodstock Avenue after midnight Sunday, according to Anniston police Lt. Fred Forsythe. A 52-year-old woman told police she had left her home and was getting into her car when she felt a sting on her right shoulder.
The woman told police she didn’t hear gunfire when she was hit, Forsythe said.
Forsythe said an object entered the woman through her right shoulder and exited her stomach. Police believe it might have been from a falling bullet.
“It appears at this time as far as we can tell, the bullet came out of the sky,” Forsythe said. “Someone must have shot it in the air.”
The woman was taken to Regional Medical Center and then transferred to UAB, according to Forsythe, who said the woman was conscious and able to speak to police and doctors.
No arrests have been made and police are investigating the incident, Forsythe said.
