Re “At last, Luttrell will carry ball into Hall of Fame” (Sports article, June 11):

Thanks to The Star’s Joe Medley for the article on David “Little Toe” Luttrell. He was a powerful runner. As Wayne Hill so aptly put it, “His signature was dragging tacklers.”

As a teacher at Jacksonville High School during David’s junior and senior years, I came to know him not just as a football player but as the person he was and still is, humble and always respectful of others. The fan and news media attention he received as a great athlete never led him to distinguish himself from others.

David Luttrell still bears the valued qualities of life that go beyond the game.
