“Cabinet shop fires are usually difficult to tackle,” Interim Fire Chief Tony Taylor said. “There’s all that wood, there are solvents, and even the cleanest cabinet shop has some sawdust.”
Firefighters were called to the scene at 6:40 a.m. Thursday at 107 Old Gadsden Highway, Taylor said. The property is listed in the telephone book as Liberty Cabinet Shop.
Taylor said firefighters arrived within five minutes, and found three-fourths of the building in flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and left the scene by 9:30 a.m. Taylor said that’s pretty quick work, where cabinet fires are concerned.
“They did a good job yesterday,” Taylor said this morning.
No one was injured in the blaze, Taylor said. He said the owner of the property, who had leased it to the owner of the cabinet shop, reported chest pains and was examined by emergency responders at the scene.
Taylor said the cause of the fire was still under investigation, but as of this morning, there was no indication of foul play.
