Weaver City Councilwoman Sheila Field said Wednesday that she is resigning from office as she faces the threat of losing her home to foreclosure.

“I don’t have no business being a council person,” Field said. “I just got too much on me right now.”

The lenders holding the mortgage on Fields’ home published a notice Wednesday declaring Fields in default on the loan. Field said she has been working with attorneys to try to save her Clara Drive home.

“I’m trying to work it out and it’s turned over to a law firm but whether it will be worked out or not I don’t know,” Field said.

Field was first elected to the council in 2004. In 2008 she ran unsuccessfully for mayor, and was later appointed to a vacancy on the council. Field had said she planned to seek another term in elections this August. Now, Field said, she can no longer maintain public office in Weaver.

“I don’t want to embarrass the city of Weaver anymore,” Field said.

Field said she called City Hall to resign Wednesday. She added that she plans on having the matter of her foreclosure settled within 30 days.
