Re “Oops! The president is coming to town” (Phillip Tutor column, May 18):

Yes, Alabama stinks of racism, from one end of the state to the other. I lived in Alabama for 65 years, mostly in Mobile, but also in Alabaster. Everywhere I went in Alabama, the stink of racism was present.

If Alabama can overcome the legacy of racism, it can join the rest of the country in the 21st century. Otherwise, it will remain mired in the 19th century and continue to stink up the country.
