Owner David Wright said this is the first time he will have missed a milking in 40 years — save for once before, during the snowstorm of ’93.
If, like your humble correspondent, you are panic-stricken at the thought of a whole summer without Wright Dairy deliciousness, Wright said it is possible to stock up and freeze milk.
Wright just puts gallon jugs straight in the freezer, then thaws them overnight in the sink. (Sit them in a pan, just in case the plastic jugs break.)
“Don’t try and thaw them in the refrigerator,” he said. “They won’t thaw at that temperature.”
If you want to stock up, do it quick. Wright predicts he’ll start running low on milk in two to three weeks.
You might want to stock up on Wright Dairy’s gourmet ice cream, while you’re at it.
