In the past six months, I have had a couple of widows come to me with stories about expensive amounts of artificial flowers being stolen from loved ones’ graves. Add to this the stories of the same thing happening to a friend of a friend, and this quickly becomes a lot of money that has been paid by those of us who can least afford the loss.
It seems that with the approach of every holiday where graves are decorated and loved ones are remembered that this crime tends to become worse. How sad it is that our veterans and others cannot be remembered on Memorial Day or Veterans Day without these unholy souls ghoulishly creeping about and doing such things. They are no better than modern-day grave robbers.
I know the police in their respective towns and communities would like to catch these folks and relieve the sufferings of the hearts of many, but I understand this would be a hard crime to crack.
However, it would not be hard to pass state laws requiring a person to show proof of where they bought any/all types of flowers or accessories of the floral trade that they are trying to re-sell to unsuspecting florists or to the general public from the side of our roads.
