Anniston firefighters responded to an early-morning call today on the 2200 block of McKleroy Avenue and found a house engulfed in flames, said Anniston Fire Chief Tony Taylor.

The fire was under control within a few minutes, but the house was a total loss, Taylor said. There were no injuries. The resident, a renter that Taylor couldn’t identify, was not at home at the time of the fire.

“Nothing really dramatic about it,” Taylor said. “We had units on the scene until about 6 o’clock this morning, basically checking for hot spots and making sure it didn’t rekindle.”

The cause of the fire, which appeared to start on the porch, is still under investigation, Taylor added.
