OXFORD - The victim in a shooting Monday at Coldwater Creek still is in intensive care, but his mother says he is doing well and may get to go home as soon as Friday.

Joseph Grizzard, 16, was shot three times on Monday afternoon, twice in the chest, his mother, Donna Grizzard, told a reporter today.

Denzel Thomas Hicks, 17, of Oxford, has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting. He was being held at the Calhoun County Jail this morning.

Donna Grizzard said her son did not require surgery for his gunshot wounds, one of which punctured a lung.

"To be shot three times, he's doing pretty good," she said.

Grizzard was shot shortly after 3 p.m. Monday at the park, according to police. Oxford police searched for the alleged shooter for a few hours after the incident. Lt. L.G. Owens said the 17-year-old suspect turned himself in around 7:45 p.m.

Owens said this morning that police still are investigating the shooting and had not determined any motive.
