More security needed for cemetery

Due to an editing error the following letter, which was originally published Wednesday, is presented in its corrected form.

I am writing regarding the vases stolen at Forest Lawn and from local cemeteries. That is about as sorry as one can get. Now my dilemma is getting a new vase.

These vases don’t come cheap; they cost more than $200. The other option is a vase of hard plastic — which has no value to thieves — that does not let the flowers have a tight fit and allows water to seep in.

What has upset me is when I called the receptionist at the cemetery to let them know the lesser-priced vase was bigger, etc., and the flowers I had fitted tightly in it five days ago were already gone, her response might as well have been “Oh, well.”

She said I was the only person who had complained.

I ask others who are having this problem to please call and let the cemetery person know so that a better vase might be made available to us. Another alternative would be for them to provide security and we might not have this problem in the first place.
