According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the chances of any significant storms developing later today are slim.
“From what I can tell, we might have some scattered thunderstorms … we might be a little too dry today to get anything really organized this afternoon,” said Matt Grantham, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Grantham said a significant thunderstorm could around 3 a.m. Thursday and last into the afternoon.
“It will mainly be a dangerous wind threat … enough to knock down trees,” Grantham said. “I see no threat of a tornado.”
Once the storms pass through however, area residents can expect pleasant weather for the weekend. The National Weather Service is currently forecasting sunny skies with highs in the low 70s on Saturday and Sunday.
