The man alleged to have fatally shot an Anniston police officer in August is facing a new charge of burglary stemming from an unrelated incident last summer.

Joshua Eugene Russell, 24, of Anniston, was charged earlier this month with third-degree burglary. Russell is alleged to have unlawfully entered a home on Altamont Road in Anniston on July 22.

Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell said forensics connected Russell to the crime, which had been unsolved for more than seven months.

Russell was charged in August with shooting and killing Anniston police Officer Justin Sollohub. He’s currently awaiting trial on a capital murder charge.
