The winner of Tuesday's GOP primary will get to challenge incumbent Lucy Baxley this fall. A Republican win would complete a 32-year transition from all Democrats in statewide offices to all Republicans.
The candidates are Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh, Kathy Peterson and Chip Brown. Cavanaugh ran for PSC president in 2008 and narrowly lost. She won a seat on the PSC in 2010. Brown narrowly lost a PSC race in 2010. Peterson is making her first race for public office.
The PSC's responsibilities include regulating the electric and natural gas utilities, which the candidates say is crucial to maintaining low rates for consumers.
