• A no-kill shelter run by the Calhoun County Humane Society

• 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; noon-3 p.m. Saturday.

• Dog adoptions available the first Saturday of the month at PetSmart.

• Purchases at the Secondhand Tails Thrift Store benefit the Animal Shelter. The thrift store is at 6500 McClellan Blvd., Anniston, 256-847-1125, open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

The League for Animal Welfare

• A no-kill shelter.

• 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

Calhoun County Animal Control Center

• Houses animals that have been surrendered by their owners or carried in by animal control officers.

• The majority of animals must be euthanized. State law requires a minimum seven-day waiting period.
