The wreck occurred at 4:41 p.m. on Pelham Road, said Lt. Gary Hammett with the Jacksonville Fire Department. It involved one car and one motorcycle.
A damaged black Nissan Maxima had come to a stop, blocking traffic when Jacksonville resident Shelli Boyles approached the scene on her way to work. A fire truck, an ambulance, two police cars and a state trooper were at the scene, she said.
Four emergency workers crowded around a person lying on the grass, she added.
The wreckage from the crash covered three lanes of traffic, she said. The only free lane was a southbound lane according to Boyles. She said the remaining traffic was detoured onto Church Street.
Citing privacy laws, Hammett said he could provide no further information about the crash or the victim. Attempts to reach Jacksonville Police late Tuesday were unsuccessful.
