Alabama newspapers have recently exposed discreet political contributions from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians to the Republican State Leadership Committee. The contributions were to be used to fight the expansion of non-Indian gaming in Alabama and to elect Republicans to the Alabama Legislature. The GOP, the party that claims to be against gambling, denied using Indian casino or any gaming interests’ contributions to support or elect its candidates in Alabama.

What is the truth?

Rep. Mike Hubbard states he was assured the money the GOP received from the RSLC did not come from gaming interests. He goes on to say an official with the RSLC disclosed to him the group had accepted gaming money, but Hubbard is quick to say he has no control over where the money comes from. The truth is he could care less where the money came from as long as his agenda was accomplished.

Were there any laws broken? Is money laundering out of the question? Maybe an investigation into the contributions would give us some clear answers.
