If the Southeastern Conference could land, say, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State and Notre Dame, that would be a game-changer of an announcement.

But Texas A&M? And possibly West Virginia? Or Virginia Tech? Or Missouri?

Alabamians love their football, and the SEC is the best thing going. It has no peer. And part of its aura is the battling camaraderie of Southern teams, fighting decade after decade for the same inches of turf.

A&M’s a done deal, once the lawyers take care of business. But, gosh, we hope the SEC doesn’t expand for expansion’s sake and makes mistakes it later regrets.
