Local and federal law enforcement agencies are looking for a man who robbed an Oxford BB&T Bank branch this morning.

The man, who appeared to have a spider web tattoo on his left arm, walked into the bank around 9:20 a.m. and demanded cash from the teller with a note. He showed no weapons, police said.

Oxford police Sgt. L.G. Owens said the man had reddish hair and goatee-style beard, and was in his mid-30s or early 40s. The man is about 6 feet tall, 260 pounds, and was wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt, and black tennis shoes.

An emailed statement from the FBI said the man escaped on foot. The suspect escaped with cash, but police could not say how much.

The bank, at 2020 U. S. 78, was closed as police investigated the robbery. It will reopen when investigators finish, Owens said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Oxford police at 256-831-3121 or the Gadsden FBI office at 256-547-0522.
