After waiting 20 minutes, Commissioner James Smith cancelled the Anniston Housing Authority meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday for lack of a quorum, delaying the start of a search for a new director.

The authority’s board of commissioners has five members, but just two arrived for the meeting, Smith and Commissioner Curley Davis. They needed a third member to take any action.

The commissioners were set to accept the resignation of Kevin Fowler, the authority’s director, who has already signed a termination agreement approved at a meeting earlier this June.

They were also planning to discuss the qualifications for a new executive director so the board could start advertising next week for a new executive director.

Smith, the board chair, has been acting as the interim director without pay since the June 1 meeting of the board.
