Re “Stray-animal measure to be considered” (News article, June 9):

I ask Anniston Councilman Ben Little to reconsider his proposal to prohibit the feeding of stray animals. The ordinances that are already in existence to control stray animals need to be enforced.

Animals are living, breathing, feeling creations of the same God that created us. We, as humans and Christians, are required to take care of the less fortunate and to be good stewards of everything the Lord has put on this Earth, including homeless domestic animals. Stray animals exist only because we are not doing our job.

If Little advocates that people stop showing compassion to homeless animals, then I ask the Anniston City Council to give its residents a better alternative, such as hiring more animal-control officers and building, staffing and funding a larger shelter that can accommodate the stray animals in Anniston.

I think the very least we should do, until there is a more humane solution, is to feed stray animals. Food will give homeless animals the daily strength to search for the only thing they ask from us — a good home.
