While returning my buggy at the Anniston Wal-Mart on June 4, I heard a dog bark. I thought surely nobody would leave a dog in a car in this heat, so I walked toward my car. I again heard a bark and started walking toward it. There was a small, black-and-tan dachshund in a car whose windows were slightly opened.

I was so mad I couldn’t think straight. Looking back, I should have immediately dialed 911, but I was just concerned about the fastest way to get the dog out. I went back in Wal-Mart and, after a few employees told me they couldn’t do anything, I went to the service desk.

Thank God for the two ladies who cared enough to help, especially the lady who paged on the intercom that the owner of the car with the dog left in it had better return to that car or the police were going to be called. It only took about two minutes for the owner to return and leave the parking lot.

So, I would like to thank those two sweet ladies who cared enough to help. And to the lady driving the silver Chrysler parked in Row 7, shame, shame on you. Hopefully it was enough to teach a lesson to her, but the next time I come across an animal like that, I will call 911. There is no excuse for that.

I have a Chihuahua and I do have to think what I might do when I’m out because she does go with me most times. Please think about your pets in this heat we are dealing with. Don’t be that stupid.
