The money will help fifth-graders take a 10-day trip to Washington, D.C., in May.
“In partnership with teachers, parents and students, we served well over 300 people and raised better than $1,600 during those three hours,” said pastor David Rice. “Perhaps most importantly, we helped foster a wellspring of good will for 10th Street School and the good work that is being done there.”
Rice added that all 30 fifth-graders who are physically able are going to D.C., and the church plans to make this fundraiser an annual event.
The church has a longstanding relationship with the school, which was chronicled in the Faith section on April 9. The two entities are across the street from each other, and church members have volunteered as tutors for the students.
