The seven-member group is representative of the various campus constituencies.
It includes head softball coach Jana McGinnis, soccer player Chelsea Pelletier, sports information director Greg Seitz, J-Club past president Joe Haynie, Gamecock Club president Ed Kimbrough and NCAA faculty rep Maureen Newton.
Don Killingsworth, the university’s director of government relations and a former president of the SGA, is the chair.
The group is expected to get its charge from university president Bill Meehan in early April.
Applications for the position close April 29.
Current athletics director Oval Jaynes formally announced his retirement last month, effective April 30. The targeted start date for his successor is July 1.
There is wide speculation both inside and outside the athletic department the front-runner is former Troy athletics director Johnny Williams, who heads the consulting firm helping JSU consider moving its football program to the FBS level, but Williams hasn’t publicly said if he is interested. Sources familiar with the search have confirmed JSU soccer coach Julie Davis-Carlson as one of the candidates.
