Re “Alabama historian Wayne Flynt comes home to preach the social gospel” (News article, Jan. 23):

I take issue with historian Wayne Flynt’s assertion that “salvation is based on how you transform the way you act.” John 3:16 and Romans 10:9 plainly state that you must believe in Jesus to be saved. Romans 3:27 and Ephesians 2:8-9 just as plainly state that the “way you act” has no bearing on salvation.

The Bible warns of false teachers like Flynt (2 Corinthians 11:4). As for his comments on his feelings of “attachment,” he has shown that his purpose is to promote his own agenda rather than preach the gospel of Christ, and I am greatly saddened that New Testament churches would give him a platform to preach being a good and charitable person as a replacement for the blood of Jesus Christ.
