How many Americans are as illiterate as I am about the financing of the U.S. government? Why do we have to borrow money from China, Saudi Arabia and other countries? Why do U.S. presidents and other politicians boast about this country being the most powerful, richest and productive country in the world?

Just the other day, one TV personality was flashing a list of the richest Americans. Some were multi-million and billionaires. It is reported that we owe China $800 billion. Why wouldn’t our government borrow that money from some of our rich citizens? Is it against the law to borrow from a private citizen? Isn’t it possible that we would have some rich citizens patriotic enough to make a loan to their country and keep business in this country?

At this juncture in my life, I am too old to go back to school and learn such things about financing the country’s government. Having paid taxes (local, state and federal) for the past 64 years makes me yearn to know how the system works. Please publish the system of financing the government so I can be as educated as the rest of the citizens of the United States.
