The Humane Society of the United States has a dog-fighting hotline number (1-877-847-4787) and offers a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of dog fighters.

Alabama now has a political action committee for animals — AVRAL. Alabama Voters for Responsible Animal Legislation’s first goal is to ban the use of gas chambers as a method of killing in animal facilities. State Sen. Del Marsh, R-Anniston, and Rep. Steve McMillan, R-Gulf Shores, are co-sponsoring a bill to end gas chambers in Alabama.

AVRAL seeks a greater focus on developing more low-cost spay/neuter clinics to reduce overpopulation and strengthening laws against animal cruelty and neglect. AVRAL members come from all walks of life and all share a common concern: they want an end of the waste of taxpayer dollars for animal programs they believe perpetuate a cycle of cruelty and neglect. There is no membership fee to join AVRAL. Those interested in learning more about AVRAL may visit www.alabamavotesforanimals.org.
