It was a cold and dark October 14th night. Rosemary was the only child since her little brother had been murdered. Her parents were out of town for a week, and she was the only one home.

Her little brother Austin was murdered by their Uncle Mel. Her parents were devastated when they found out what had happened. Their uncle was found and sent to prison, then two months later sentenced to death. Austin was 2 years old when he was murdered; Rosemary was 13.

Today made three years since he had been gone.

Rosemary’s dad had always claimed he saw his son walking around the house.

Rosemary was sitting on her couch, texting her boyfriend, Andrew. He was planning on coming over after he got off work. Andrew was 18, and they had been dating for five years. Today was also their anniversary.

Rosemary was on her 2-year anniversary date when her little brother was murdered. Her Uncle Mel was at her house watching him. When she got home, she saw tracks of blood through her house. Her parents were out of town for their business meeting in New York. She got to the back bedroom, where Austin was laying there dead in his toddler bed. Uncle Mel was nowhere to be found. There was a note lying beside Austin, and it read: “I couldn’t stand the screaming and crying I’m sorry for what I have done. – Uncle Mel”

That’s all Rosemary could ever think about when this day came.

Just then, she got a text message from Andrew “Sorry I can’t make it, can we hang out tomorrow?” She rolled her eyes, cut off her phone and threw it across the room. As soon as she had done that, the power went out, and she regretted throwing her phone. She started panicking. Just then, she heard footsteps above her. It was coming from her little brother’s old bedroom.

Listening, she heard screaming and crying coming from upstairs. She slowly stood up and started walking up her stairs. “Hello? Who’s there?” she said with a shaking voice. No answer. Just footsteps and screaming, along with the crying.

She couldn’t take it anymore. She opened Austin’s bedroom door. No one was in there. It was very cold and dark.

She felt something brush by, screaming her name. “ROSEMARY!” It sounded like Austin. “Hello? Austin is that you?” Again, no reply. All of a sudden, she was pushed down by something, but there was no one there. What was going on? She panicked and screamed. Running outside, she found her boyfriend, Andrew, pulling up in her driveway.

Looking at her little brother’s bedroom window, she saw Austin looking at her. He looked confused. She ran into her boyfriend’s arms, screaming and crying. He held onto her tight. He had no clue what was happening. The power came back on, and everything seemed different, lighter, a better night.

Rosemary and Andrew went inside, and Austin was never heard or seen again.
