Calhoun County deputies are investigating a shooting that occurred about 2 p.m. Tuesday, leaving one man wounded.

Investigators believe the shooting took place on Wilkerson Drive in Hobson City, but they haven’t confirmed that.

Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said the Calhoun County 911 center received a call about a possible shooting on Wilkerson Drive around 2 p.m. When deputies arrived on scene, Wade said, there was no one there.

While deputies investigated the scene at Wilkerson Drive, investigators also went to Regional Medical Center to see if anyone had been admitted with a gunshot wound. Shortly afterward, he said, a man arrived with a gunshot wound to his left forearm.

The victim has not given any details to police, Wade said.

“I wouldn’t say he is not being cooperative, but he has not told us the identity of the shooter,” Wade said.

Wade said the victim is “known to us in our profession” and has been in the Calhoun County Jail more than once.

Deputies are still looking for the shooter, but Wade did not have a description of the shooter as of 2:30 p.m.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has been in charge of law enforcement in Hobson City since the town disbanded its police force due to financial troubles.
