The 38-year-old man was arrested Wednesday and is currently in custody at the county jail, a police report shows.
The investigation and resulting arrest followed a report by an 11-year-old girl who told her parents the man had taken her into the woods near their house and performed sexual acts on her, deputies said.
The parents reported the incident to the police Oct. 2, about an hour after the girl told them the sexual abuse occurred, according to police records.
The parents told police they had allowed the suspect to live with them for a couple weeks, because he did not have any money or family in the area to help him financially.
