The 7 Habits of Happy Kids at Margaret Elementary School

Margaret Elementary is implementing a new initiative this year. They are helping students become lifelong leaders by teaching "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids."

The principals in the book are based out of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Steven Covey.

The habits include:

Habit 1: Be proactive

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind

Habit 3: Put first things first

Habit 4: Think win/win

Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then be understood

Habit 6: Synergize

Habit 7: Sharpen the saw

The students learn how to take charge of their attitudes, actions, and moods. To help foster leaders, Margaret Elementary School is now selecting "Leaders of the Month."

This month, they are focusing on students who are using habit 1 – be proactive. Being proactive means to take responsibility for your choices and behaviors.

Habit 1 is the key to all of the other habits; that’s why it comes first. Be proactive says, "I am in charge of my own life.I am responsible for whether I am happy or sad.I can choose how I react to other people or situations.I am in the driver’s seat."
