To the Editor:
In response to the writer who said, "UAB Sports Programs are an embarrassment to the city," there is nothing wrong with UAB. It’s one of the very few things the city has going for it.
If anything Birmingham itself is an embarrassment as a city. While Birmingham slowly rots and decays the rest of central Alabama feels the effects of those ripples.
While too many of Birmingham`s past leaders sit in prison they are replaced with more of the same incompetence. They only hope for Birmingham and central Alabama is for this city to be governed by representatives from the surrounding suburbs and counties, as what does not get accomplished by Birmingham affects them as well.
Trying a plan like this certainly could not be any worse than Birmingham electing the same type of leaders over and over, and getting the same failing results. With some real leadership, Birmingham and this area might even land some industries like Remington, Airbus, Toyota or perhaps even another steel plant.
Birmingham’s leadership of the past few decades obviously has not had what it takes to bring in jobs on a grand scale.
