About 275 needy children throughout St. Clair County will wake up Christmas morning with toys under the Christmas tree thanks to a giving elf: Eleanor Clinkscales.

For the past 29 years, Clinkscales has tried to make sure no child in St. Clair County would wake up Christmas morning and not have a toy to play with.

"We do not give the toys directly to the children," Clinkscales said. "We give the toys to the parents in a dark garbage bag so the parents can have some sense of pride putting these toys under the tree for their children."

The toys were bagged up at Refuge Baptist Church this past week.

And the toys included tricycles, bicycles and scooters that were donated by Bikers for Christ, Barbie dolls, books, remote control cars, airplanes, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, jump ropes, drum sets, games, clothes, sleeping bags and so many more.

Clinkscales thanked two auctions – Kay’s Auction in Ragland and Johnson’s Auction in Odenville – for their help and support.

The toys were distributed throughout the county Dec. 13.
