LINCOLN -- Lincoln police have identified the couple involved in an apparent homicide-suicide that happened early this morning.

A press release from Lincoln police identifies the couple as Wayne Brand, 65, and Rebecca Brand, 43, of the 2000 block of Brooks Lake Road, off Highway 77.

Police responded around 7 a.m. to a 911 call  of a possible homicide at the residence.

“Once entry was made into the residence, the couple were found deceased with apparent gunshot wounds,” the release reads. “One of the victims suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Investigator Amanda Crow said police were not ready to say this afternoon which of the two was the shooter.

Crow added that the 911 call did come from inside the residence, but could not identify the caller at this time. Crow also noted that “no prior disturbance calls from the residence have been recorded by Lincoln PD.”

Nearby Lincoln schools were initially placed on a brief precautionary lockdown, but that was soon lifted, and the schools were deemed safe, Crow said.

The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, Talladega Police Department and the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force also responded to the scene.

Lincoln Police Department thanked the agencies “for their assistance,” the release said. “We also offer our condolences to the families of the deceased.”
