TALLADEGA -- Talladega police are investigating a strong-arm robbery reported by a motorist at the stop light at Alabama 77 and the 275 Bypass early Thursday morning, according to an incident and offense report.

Capt. Leon Thomas said officers first made contact with the victim on West Street North, after he had called police. The victim told officers he had been stopped at the red light when a red Ford Mustang with loud exhaust and heavily tinted windows pulled up on one side of him, and a white Ford Explorer, also with heavily tinted windows, pulled up on the other side of him.

He told the officers that he did not recognized the vehicles, although he had seen the Mustang at a nearby gas station.

The victim said two men wearing black clothes and facemasks got out of the passenger side of the Mustang and the driver’s side of the Explorer, assaulted him, grabbed him and stole his wallet.

The wallet contained his driver’s license, Social Security card, three debit cards and $480 in cash. The robbers then got back into their respective vehicles, with the Mustang driving off toward Old Shocco Road and the Explorer heading toward Jackson Trace Road.

Thomas said other than the victim, no other witnesses have been identified, and no suspects had been named by investigators.

Anyone with information on this incident should contact the Talladega Police Department at 256-362-4508 or the city’s anonymous tip line at 256-299-0011.
