Oak Grove has a new town clerk.

The council unanimously approved Angel Golden, who had been the assistant clerk, to the position at a called council meeting Friday.

“I think we made a good choice appointing her,” Oak Grove Mayor Tony White said.

Golden has a degree in business accounting and worked for 20 years at a local accounting firm. When it closed, she took a year off.

“The assistant clerk job was available, and I decided to go back to work,” she said. “Municipal government is very interesting, and I’ve always loved accounting.”

Golden began training in municipal government duties when she started in April.

“She has done really well dealing with the new responsibilities as town clerk,” White said. “She is still learning. It is a lot of responsibility we put on her.”

Golden and her husband, Matt, have been married for 24 years this August. The couple have two daughters, Hallee, 11, and Holley, 8. The Goldens live in Fayetteville and attend Valley View Church of God in Sylacauga.

“This job is like a family,” she said. “Everybody is great. They’ve welcomed me with open arms, ready to help. It’s a great place to work. The mayor is easy to work with and I’ve enjoyed it. It really has been a blessing.”

In other matters Friday, the council:

O Approved a resolution regarding authorization for banking transactions adding Golden to the list of individuals authorized on town accounts.

O Approved removal of a light near Oak Grove Baptist Church. White said the church wishes to pave a portion of that area; however the light pole is in the way. The removal is at no cost to the town.
